Primary Clinical Applications

Diagnostic otoscopy in pediatric patients (infants, toddlers) or adults with narrow or sensitive ear canals where slightly more working length than the shortest (50mm) otoscopes is preferred for handling or camera attachment.

Clinical Advantages

Offers improved handling and stability compared to 50mm scopes due to the extra 10mm length, while retaining the atraumatic 2.7mm diameter suitable for small canals. Provides a clear, direct view of the tympanic membrane and external auditory canal.

Ideal Procedures

Routine pediatric ear examinations; diagnostic assessment in adults with canal stenosis; video otoscopy where the 60mm length facilitates easier camera connection and focus; quick office checks requiring good visualization in small canals.

Special Considerations

The 0° view limits assessment of middle ear structures hidden behind the tympanic membrane (requires angled scopes or perforation). Image brightness is less than larger diameter scopes, necessitating adequate illumination. Primarily a diagnostic tool; the 60mm length offers limited advantage for instrumentation compared to 90mm or 110mm scopes.
