Primary Clinical Applications

The workhorse scope for initial navigation in adult sinus surgery. Used for the first phase of FESS to identify key landmarks, examine the nasal septum, assess turbinate hypertrophy, and visualize the nasopharynx. Essential for anterior ethmoidectomy and uncinate process removal where straight-ahead visualization is critical.

Clinical Advantages

Provides the brightest, highest-definition image due to its 4mm diameter. The straight-ahead view offers true depth perception and facilitates instrument co-navigation along the same axis. Allows surgeons to maintain optimal orientation during the early phases of sinus procedures.

Ideal Procedures

Initial phase of FESS; maxillary antrostomy; anterior ethmoidectomy; septoplasty visualization; routine adult nasal endoscopy; nasopharyngeal examination.

Special Considerations

Best suited for patients with adequate nasal anatomy. May cause discomfort in patients with narrow nasal passages or significant septal deviation. Most surgeons will begin with this scope before transitioning to angled views.
