Primary Clinical Applications

Highly specialized retrograde-viewing scope. Used rarely for viewing areas behind the scope tip - essentially looking backward. Primary use is to address the anterior, inferior, and lateral aspects of the maxillary sinus through a wide middle-meatal antrostomy. May also be employed after creating a large opening (like a Draf III) to inspect back toward the entry point.

Clinical Advantages

Allows visualization of areas that are otherwise completely invisible, even to 70° and 90° scopes. Provides a unique retrograde perspective that can reveal hidden pathology or anatomical details.

Ideal Procedures

Inspection of the lateral, anterior, and inferior walls of the maxillary sinus after a wide middle-meatal antrostomy; removal of retained secretions or polyps in the lateral maxillary recess; revision maxillary sinus surgery; posterior table checks after complex frontal sinus procedures.

Special Considerations

Extremely challenging to orient due to the counterintuitive retrograde view. Reserved for very specific inspection needs and rarely used for working views. Used primarily by experienced surgeons for challenging revision cases.
