Primary Clinical Applications

Provides an intermediate angle between 30° and 70°, useful for examining moderately angled structures like the frontal recess, lateral maxillary sinus wall, or sphenoid sinus ostium. Less commonly used than 30° and 70° but valued by some surgeons for specific tasks.

Clinical Advantages

Offers better visualization around corners than a 30° scope without the steep learning curve and difficult orientation of a 70° scope. Maintains reasonable depth perception and instrument navigation.

Ideal Procedures

Frontal recess visualization and surgery; examination of the maxillary sinus through a widened ostium; assessment of lateral nasal wall structures; sphenoid ostium identification.

Special Considerations

Some surgeons skip 45° and transition directly from 30° to 70°, however the reverse-post 45° has become an valuable intermediate step. Usage depends largely on training and preference.
