Primary Clinical Applications

Specialized scope for examining areas at right angles to the insertion path. Used occasionally to inspect the lateral recesses of the frontal sinus, the lateral wall of the sphenoid sinus, or the posterior wall of the maxillary sinus when conventional angles are insufficient.

Clinical Advantages

Provides a direct lateral view into recesses that even a 70° scope might not fully visualize. Can look directly sideways into anatomical corners that lie perpendicular to the axis of insertion.

Ideal Procedures

Inspection of lateral frontal sinus extensions; examination of lateral sphenoid recesses; visualization of areas hidden behind anatomical obstructions; some skull base approaches requiring extreme angles.

Special Considerations

Very challenging to orient and navigate. Primarily used for inspection rather than working view. Many surgeons reserve the 90° scope for specific checking tasks after completing the majority of the procedure with 0°, 30°, and 70° scopes.
